Giovanna Barchielli graduated with high distinction in Chemistry from the University of Milan. She began her career as a researcher in the Farmitalia Carlo Erba Research Department exploring the design and synthesis of anticancer drugs.
She was Senior Director of IP at NicOx SA (2003-2011) and Head of the Patent Department of a leading firm located in Milan (1995-2002). Between 1990 and 1995 she worked as a patent attorney in the Farmitalia Carlo Erba/Pharmacia IP Department.
She deals with drafting and prosecuting Italian and foreign patent applications; examination, opposition and appeals before the European Patent Office; prior art searches and validity/FTO opinions; due diligence; assistance as technical expert in patent infringement and/or invalidity proceedings.
Between 2001 and 2006 Giovanna tutored in Basic European Patent Law at the Centre d’Études Internationales de la Propriété Industrielle (CEIPI).
She is currently a lecturer in the Industrial Property Management course at the University of Milan.
